Kingstown Furniture Wins GOLD Award from National Recycling Stars
Kingstown Furniture, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of assembled bedroom furniture received the prestigious GOLD Award from the National Recycling Stars on 13th December 2011.
A member of The National Recycling Stars for three years, Kingstown Furniture has progressed through Bronze, Silver and are now at Gold Star level. The National Recycling Stars ethos is recognising and commending companies that aim to recycle as much of their waste as possible and in doing so, divert it from Landfill.
Over the last three years, the emphasis for Kingstown Furniture has been to minimise landfill waste whilst at the same time increase employee awareness. To that end, a new wood-burning boiler was installed and the energy generated is used to heat the factory and process lines. A traffic light coding system was introduced to help segregate General, Wood and Cardboard wastes. Kingstown Furniture is now recycling other waste streams such as Polythene, PVC, metal, printing cartridges, fluorescent tubes and electrical (WEEE), all with the help of Cleartech Waste Services LTD.
Having been a customer with Cleartech since December 2008, Kingstown Furniture now recycles 94% of all their waste. Mike Morland, the Health & Safety Environmental Manager at Kingstown said, “This award should be regarded as a joint venture and shared by all at Cleartech as the partnership between Kingstown and Cleartech continues to grow.”
